Infinities

Image
I used to be jealous of young couples. Filled with the fire of youthful love, They seemed invincible in the moment When they were together, even time stood still in awe Every second drawn out into an infinity lost in each other’s eyes But now I’m more impressed by old lovers Those tired souls who took their spark and forged it into an evergreen hearth Warming each other through decades past Even when the petty arguments began, adoration for the other never disappeared A love that is enduring and yet still effervescent Time didn’t stop for these two, it went on, watching as two imperfect mortals conquered every obstacle thrown in their path  And when the curtain call comes, the pair could hold each other one last time Content that they filled a definite lifetime, with an infinity that was theirs to keep.

Maybe/2am

Image
Maybe in another universe I would be falling asleep and in love with a girl at 2am Calling her and admiring her entirety as we both fight off fatigue Just for another moment or two, together in the darkened night Instead of overthinking everything as the clock hits 2 Maybe in another universe Sunsets could’ve been our thing Laying next to each other, watching that orange glow over the horizon Loving the versions of us as the day passes Instead that solar yolk stands as a reminder Of that day when hope sprung from a broken spring  Maybe in another universe We could have worked things out Embraced each other through the pain and cleared the misunderstandings  To mend the past wounds Instead we’re here now As strangers at 2am

Street

Image
Between two worlds sits a street A lively road cutting through parallel sides One side lays the marbled paths with its grand arches and lampposts of light The other provides a broken concrete path, embittered by its cracks and illuminated by the embers of dying cigarettes The renewed white plaster of the foreboding walls confronts the chipping paint from a forgotten era Time passes differently for the two sides Waving flags greet the dirty laundry; the rich wares worth a month’s pay seem so out of place with the used paper sold for a day's meal Loud noises of ‘kopis!’ in the crowded queues, drowned out by the stirring of arabica amidst the fine china The dazzling ballrooms beckon for a dance, the gardens a quiet respite from the city’s bustle Perhaps one day I can see past the glorious facade and comprehend them for the mere buildings that they are But today, I choose to cross the street An old piece from 2021

Infatuation

Image
Infatuation comes easily, it is easy to admire a portrait’s prettiness  But to embrace a broken soul, feel the sharp shards pierce your skin and continue holding on That is the challenge, not to search for prettier pictures, but to find a broken mirror worth fighting for I don’t want the pretty petal of a flower waiting to wilt I want her whole: flower, thorns, roots and all

Soliloquy

Image
If I could wish a wish Demand not jewellery or Irish  Gold, no material wealth for me Palatial palaces of incroyable width  Hosting balls of gowns and scribbled checks And yachts stacked high with gourmet on deck Matters not when the soul is not full Polished pretty in a nighttime suit Potions to cure any carnal debt Providing falsettos of hope to broken souls Ask not for these toys of the night  I do not seek the wildfire warmth of a neon glow I seek eternal effervescence from the spring of my soul To taste the light sweetness of contentment upon my long-awaiting lips  To have my bitter scars graced by another and be held in just the same faith To seek my Great Perhaps! Before that damn curtain closes
